Texas State Railroad South of Tyler at Rusk is a Texas treasure. The Texas State Parks System has restored several old steam locomotives and they make scheduled runs between Rusk and Palestine. Bring a picnic lunch and ride the train. The trip is 25 miles and takes about an hour and half. Picnic areas are at the stations with plenty of trees.
