This list represents a small number of real train rides available to the public. We have been on these and found them to be wonderful day outings. Miss Calico hopes you will take the time to try them out. Check the Internet search engines for more trains. There are government agencies that have seen the importance of preserving this nations history of trains and how railroads built our country. It is important for the children of today to experience these living, breathing machines of our past.


The Tarantula RR In Fort Worth and the north suburb of Grapevine, the Fort Worth - Western & Denver Railroad has set up a big city train ride. Park your car at the Grapevine station and ride the train to Fort Worth's famous Stockyard's. Take time to have lunch and look around at the multitude of shops and then ride the train back to Grapevine. This train trip makes for a wonderful day outing and fun for all the family.


The Hill Country Flyer During a visit to the Texas Hill Country, that is Austin, Texas to those outsiders, make a day to ride the Texas Hill Country Flyer. The train leaves the station about 9:00 A.M. and arrives in Burnet, Texas in time for lunch.


Texas State Railroad State Historical Park at Palestine and Rusk, TX Located in Palestine and Rusk, Texas, The Texas State Parks System is the owners of the Texas State Railroad. Bring a picnic lunch and a cooler full of sofa drinks. This is the place where Evil Kenevil jumped the train. Trains depart both stations about the same time and pass each other at the Natchez River. This is a good day outing from Dallas/Fort Worth and fun for the children. Real restored steam engines will pull your vintage car through the piney woods of East Texas.


Durango, Colorado's Narrow Gauge to Silverton The Crown Jewel of rail fanning in Colorado is the train between Durango and Silverton. This all day trip leaves the Durango station early in morning and takes you through some of the most beautiful canyon country in this part of Colorado.

Roaring Camp & Big Trees RR Down the pennenlia from San Francisco in the hills of Felton, California, is the Roaring Camp & Big Trees Railroad. What makes this train ride special? If you are a rail fan, you will be pulled and pushed up the mountains with a shay steam locomotive. With open air cars, you will be taken through the Big Red Trees of California. This makes for a nice break from the city and gives you the opportunity to see other sites south of San Francisco.


Train Town Hey!! Let's drive up to Sonoma, California and do some wine tasting and winery tours. We can get away from all this train stuff! Oh! Not so my friend. South of the town square is a little park know as Train Town. They have a 15" gauge train ride here that is just perfect for the kids. A visit to the park would be a nice break from the galleries, shops, spa's, and restaurants. Take the break!!


America's National Park Ride Train Museum New Mexico's premiere railroad museum, and the home of AMERICA'S NATIONAL PARK RIDE TRAIN MUSEUM.


Georgetown Loop Outside of Denver, Colorado is the Georgetown Loop Railroad. The famous thing about this railroad ride is its trussle. Said to be one of the highest and longest span trussle in the country. This is a sight to see. The country is beautiful, too!


AMTRAK Should you find you just need a really good train fix, check into AMTRAK. This system is nation wide, coast to coast, border to border. Although this is a good way to see this great nation, be sure to allow plenty of time. Sometimes AMTRAK runs late.
